Anne Brodie Hill announces the release of her new signed and
numbered limited edition print, "Lake Sidney Lanier 2000".
Anne is a local Gainesville artist who wanted to
capture the essence of "life on Lanier". The original
watercolor painting, which portrays all the many aspects of summer
fun on the water, was created for several reasons. First , to
celebrate the year 2000, and second, to commemorate the golden
anniversary of the building of Buford Dam - hence the start of Lake
Sidney Lanier.
Anne says when conceiving the idea for this painting, she tried
to envision an artwork that would convey how meaningful the year
2000 is to all who love and enjoy the lake. When realizing that this
year is also the 50th anniversary of the beginning of Lake Lanier,
the concept became even more meaningful. Anne is also a photographer
and used many of her photos as references of this special year 2000
painting. When choosing which photos to paint from, Anne focused on
her memories of many years spent on the lakes of Georgia. The
painting seems to capture every aspect of Lanier, including the
golden sunsets, the lazy summer days, and of course boating! She
also wanted to incorporate a map of the lake, not a navigational
type, but a stylized map, with some roads and towns identified. The
result is a beautiful collage of memories brought to life through
the magic of watercolor. Anne hopes this painting will be a reminder
to all of how Lake Lanier looked in the year 2000 and how essential
it is to keep it beautiful for all the years to come.
The Golden Celebration Committee, which has planned a year long
celebration of the 50th anniversary of the start of Buford Dam and
Lake Lanier, has given Anne permission to place their logo in the
margin of the prints. Anne is also becoming involved in ways to help
Lake Lanier. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of her prints
will go to the Lake Lanier Association Foundation, a non-profit
organization dedicated to keeping the water and shorelines of the
lake clean and beautiful.
There are 18 images in the new Lake Lanier 2000 painting. Anne
invites you to see if you or a family member are painted into the
lake scenes. Starting from the top left and going clockwise, a
spectacular sunset is seen with a small airplane (perhaps from
Mathis airport?) in the sky. The canoe was seen up Two Mile Creek, a
dad and son and grandson enjoying a Saturday paddle. The Great Blue
Heron, seen near Lan Mar Marina, is always a surprise for those
lucky enough to see him in flight. The judge’s boats and rowers at
Clark’s Bridge were seen during the exciting US Rowing Masters
National Championships last August. And isn’t it great when a Dad
finds the time to take his son fishing, near Clark’s Bridge. Ski
boats and wake boards are a common sight at Lanier- this one’s
just coming out from under Thompson Bridge. Our beautiful Canada
geese that stay all year are swimming with their new goslings. If
only we could teach them not to eat our grass and to be potty
trained! And is there anything as peaceful and glorious as a group
of sailboats on a Sunday afternoon race in October, or any time of
year? Who can match the Poker Run at Lanier Harbor? This year 250
boats will start from Buford Dam, and beat last year’s record as
the largest Poker Run in the world! Pontoons, speedboats and
cruisers will test their wits and navigational skills to win the
prizes. And July at Lanier would not be complete without the
fabulous fireworks at Lake Lanier Islands Resort, the destination
for family fun and recreation all year long.
The red symbol by the location of Buford Dam is the place of the
Corps of Engineers Headquarters, whose dedicated members operate the
49 beautiful parks around the lake. Starting in March, 1950, the
Corps were responsible for the building of Buford Dam. The
assortment of fishing flies on the gray board were seen in the
antique boat collection at the Atlanta Boat Show and represents
fishing for trout in the Chattahoochee River above and below the
Dam.
What would a weekend in the summer be without a flotilla!
Noodles, foam floats, and rafts hold up young and old, cooling off
and relaxing. Houseboats have become a big thing on our lake, some
even more luxurious than one’s home on land! And it’s always a
race to get to the best spot. Horseshoes, campfires, toasting marshmallows,
fish fries, candles and torches, cool breezes, and being with best
friends- can you beat it!
Children and grandchildren love to paddle around in small boats
and dinghies - of course with life jackets on. And perhaps camping
in tents and RV’s around the lake is bigger than anything. Lanier’s
campgrounds offer great spots near the water with shade and beaches
for a great getaway.
Another special part of the painting is the Aqualand Marina
Lighthouse. Designed by Alan Wayne, the beacon is a favorite marker
on this end of the lake. Each small anchor in the painting
represents one of the 10 marinas and other yacht and boat clubs on
the lake. Near the center is our ever-present, noisy kingfisher.
Near Clark’s Bridge is a little yellow duck with sunglasses,
floating down the Chattahoochee River. This will be the location of
the year 2000 Rubber Duck Derby presented by Atlanta Marine, the
Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club and Alan Hope of Lakeside on Lanier
newspaper. The proceeds benefit the Boy’s and Girl’s Clubs of
Hall County.
In 1995 after moving to Gainesville from Stone Mountain, Anne
began photographing and painting scenes of Lake Lanier. She is a
signature member of the American Society of Marine Artists and a
member of COGAP, the Coast Guard Artist Program. Her love of marine
landscapes and subjects launched the idea for her Bridges of Lake
Lanier series. She has prints available of Brown’s Bridge, Bolling
Bridge and Clark’s Bridge and plans to release a new bridge print
each year until all 14 have been represented. The prints come in two
sizes, approximated 15x20 and 8x10 and postcards of each bridge are
also available. Frames You-Nique in Gainesville is the exclusive
dealer for Anne’s prints.
The "Lake Sidney Lanier 2000" print (limited edition,
signed and numbered) with a special remark, if requested.
