"Gainesville, GA, Summer 2004 – Remember the Past,

Hope for the Future" by Anne Brodie Hill

This is a limited edition, signed and numbered print from an edition of 300 prints with 20 Artist’s Proofs and 20 Publisher’s Proofs, and 10 Mainstreet Proofs. This is the fourth and final reproduction in the series of historical prints by Anne. The series depicts the Gainesville Square at different times in history in the four seasons – Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring.

The Summer 2004 print shows a view from the Hunt Tower on a sunny summer day. After several years of restoration and beautification, the downtown square in Gainesville is now a wonderful place to shop and visit. The shops of Washington Street and Bradford Street are shown. Also the famous Methodist Church, which is now the Smithgall Arts Center, can be seen in the background.

On the corner of Main Street are three athletes who have been kayaking at the Lake Lanier Olympic Center and have come to town to shop. They represent the past events, such as the 1996 Olympics and the Lanier Canoe 2003 World Championships that were held at the Clark’s Bridge venue on Lake Lanier. Also, five cyclists are going up Spring Street, practicing for an upcoming Tour de Georgia bike race. There is a red cardinal in the trees, reminding us of friends, old and new.

Also in the print are two "hidden" pictures with connection to the title. There is a white dove of peace carrying an olive branch to symbolize "Hope for the Future". There are also five "circles" with the colors of the Olympic rings to "Remember the Past" 1996 Olympics. This print and the other three Gainesville Square prints can be seen and purchased at Frames You-Nique, 104 Main Street, Gainesville, GA. 770-532-7074.
